Equipment financing applications can often be approved within one business day, and sometimes the same day, particularly for straightforward transactions with complete information. Approval and completed funding are different milestones, and timing varies by transaction and financing source.
Knowing what drives the timeline, and what you can do to keep it moving, helps you plan the purchase realistically.
Why some requests are approved quickly
Many financing sources offer streamlined, application-based programs for common equipment purchases. When a request is complete, well-documented, and fits a program’s parameters, the financing source can often review it efficiently.
The information you provide at the start makes a real difference. A complete request lets the financing source evaluate the business and the equipment without back-and-forth, while missing details or unanswered questions can add steps.
What we typically need to begin
For a standard equipment financing request, we generally need:
- A completed credit application.
- Three months of business bank statements.
- An equipment quote showing the equipment, the purchase price, and the vendor’s contact information.
If you are seeking preapproval before finalizing a purchase, we can begin with a conversation about the equipment you are considering, its intended use, and the approximate purchase price, then determine the appropriate next steps.
Application-only and financial-statement transactions
Certain qualifying equipment categories, including yellow iron, machinery, and assembly-line equipment, may be eligible for application-only financing programs up to approximately $500,000 to $750,000, depending on the program and the applicant’s qualifications. Not every equipment category or applicant qualifies for these higher limits.
For larger transactions, particularly those exceeding approximately $250,000 that do not qualify for an application-only program, additional financial statements may be required. When those statements are readily available, the additional underwriting review may add approximately one business day. More complicated transactions may take longer.
Either way, providing complete information at the beginning helps avoid unnecessary delays.
How to help the process move efficiently
You do not need to predict every question a financing source might ask. A few practical steps can make the exchange of information more straightforward:
- Have the equipment details and purchase information available.
- Provide complete, accurate information the first time.
- Respond promptly if the financing source requests clarification or supporting documents.
- Work with a resource that understands which financing sources are a good fit for different transactions.
For example, imagine a distribution operation planning to add a forklift before its busy season. If the delivery date is approaching, knowing the equipment specifications and purchase details can help the request get to an appropriate financing source with fewer avoidable gaps.
Plan around the business calendar
Approval timing is only one part of an equipment purchase. Delivery schedules, installation windows, supplier pricing, and project or seasonal needs can all affect when the equipment must be ready to work.
A forklift waiting in a supplier’s warehouse does not help if your busiest period has already started. The same is true when a job depends on having equipment available or when installation needs to fit an operating schedule. Understanding the financing review process early can help you plan the acquisition realistically rather than guess at when it will be complete.
That does not mean every purchase requires financing or that a business should rush into a decision. It means the purchase timeline and the financing review are worth considering together.
