Happy Wednesday! How are you holding up?

If you’re like most of the entrepreneurs and business leaders I talk to, Wednesday can feel like a bit of a crossroads. You’ve put in the hard miles on Monday and Tuesday, but the weekend still feels just a little bit out of reach. It’s that "Hump Day" moment where the initial excitement of the week might be fading, and the sheer weight of your responsibilities starts to press in.

Maybe a project didn’t go as planned yesterday. Maybe you’re facing a tough decision that has no easy answer. Or maybe you’re just tired of the noise.

In these moments, it’s easy to look for external solutions, a new strategy, a better tool, or a louder voice. But what if the real solution is something much quieter? What if the fuel you need to finish the week strong isn't found in a spreadsheet, but in a quality of the soul that Dr. Thurman Fleet called Moral Courage?

Today, I want to step away from the talk of "funding" and "growth" to talk about something much more foundational: the strength to stay the course when things are difficult.

What is Moral Courage, Anyway?

When we think of courage, we usually think of the "big" moments. We think of heroes running into burning buildings or athletes making a last-second play. That is physical courage, and it is a beautiful thing. But Dr. Fleet, in his profound work Rays of the Dawn, points us toward something even more vital for the long-term journey of a business owner: Moral Courage.

In Chapter 25, Fleet describes courage not as a personality trait you’re either born with or you’re not, but as a Law of the Soul.

Think of it this way: just as gravity is a law of the physical world, courage is a law of your inner world. It is the attribute of the soul that gives you the strength, the power, and, most importantly, the endurance to overcome obstacles, weaknesses, and disappointments.

Moral courage isn't about being loud. It’s about the "silent strength" required to follow the truth of your own heart, even when the world is shouting for you to do something else.

1. Recognize the Law of Your Soul

Are you letting your mind or your soul run the show?

Dr. Fleet made a fascinating distinction between the "Laws of the Mind" and the "Laws of the Soul." He categorized things like fear, worry, and greed as mental habits, essentially negative traits that clutter our progress. On the flip side, things like faith, hope, and courage are the Laws of the Soul.

When you feel anxious about a business decision, that’s usually a mental law at work. When you feel a deep, quiet pull to do the right thing, even if it’s the harder path, that’s the Law of the Soul.

Ask yourself: Is this decision coming from a place of fear (the mind), or a place of courage (the soul)?

Moral courage is the soul's answer to fear. It doesn't mean the fear goes away; it means you have the inner intelligence to act according to a higher principle rather than an emotional impulse.

2. The Power of Endurance

Have you ever noticed that the hardest part of any journey is the middle?

In the beginning, you have the spark of inspiration. At the end, you have the thrill of the finish line. But in the middle, on a Wednesday, in the second year of a startup, or in the tenth month of a long project, you need endurance.

Fleet defined courage as providing "strength, power, and endurance." It’s the ability to stay the course when results are delayed. It’s the willingness to keep planting seeds even when you don't see the sprouts yet.

Staying the course doesn't mean being stubborn or refusing to pivot. It means refusing to give up on your core values. It means that even if the "how" changes, the "why" remains unshakable.

3. Choosing Truth Over Comfort

This is where the "moral" part of moral courage really kicks in. As a business owner, you are faced with a hundred small choices every day. Some are easy. Some are "comfortable."

Comfort says, "Just tell them what they want to hear so the problem goes away."
Moral Courage says, "Tell the truth, even if it creates a temporary mess."

Comfort says, "Everyone else is taking this shortcut, so it’s fine if I do too."
Moral Courage says, "My integrity is not for sale, no matter what the industry standard is."

When you align yourself with the Law of the Soul, you are essentially aligning yourself with the "inner Intelligence" of the universe. Fleet suggested that when we act with courage, we bring ourselves into harmony with natural laws that lead to health, growth, and freedom.

4. How to Tap Into Your "Silent Strength" Today

So, how do we actually do this on a random Wednesday afternoon? Here are four simple ways to practice moral courage right now:

  1. Face One "Inner Obstacle": We all have that one thing we’re avoiding, a difficult phone call, a hard truth about our finances, or a habit we know is holding us back. Practice moral courage by facing it today. Not tomorrow. Today.
  2. Quiet the Noise: Take five minutes of pure silence. No phone, no emails, no music. Ask your soul what it needs you to know. The mind is loud, but the soul speaks in whispers.
  3. Validate Your "Why": Remind yourself why you started this journey in the first place. Was it just for money? Or was it to build something, help people, or create a legacy? Reconnecting with your "Why" fuels your courage.
  4. Stand by a Principle: Look at your to-do list. Is there anything on there that feels slightly "off" or out of alignment with your values? Have the courage to change it, even if it’s inconvenient.

You Are a Soul with a Business, Not Just a Business with a Soul

One of the most beautiful parts of Dr. Fleet’s philosophy is the reminder that you are a Soul. Your business is an expression of your energy and your choices. When you nourish your soul with courage, your business naturally reflects that strength.

As you head into the rest of this week, remember that you don't have to do it all on your own. There is a "Silent Strength" within you that is ready to be tapped.

You don't need to be the loudest person in the room to be the strongest. You just need the moral courage to stay true to your path.

"Courage is that attribute of the soul which gives the individual the strength, the power, and the endurance to overcome or surmount obstacles… any force, circumstance, condition, person, or thing that tends to impede our progress." , Dr. Thurman Fleet

Keep going. You’re doing better than you think.
